What the heck is reiki?
I get this question a lot, along with the others here!

Still no answer to what you're wondering? Shoot me an email!
1
What the heck is reiki, anyway?
Reiki is universal energy. Sounds quite woo-woo, doesn't it? Well, it is, and I love it! The attuned reiki practitioner (me, in this case) simply channels the energy to where it wants and needs to go by gently placing our hands on or above you, to promote relaxation and support your body's natural healing.
Reiki is NOT a religion, nor is it associated with any religion.
Reiki can do no harm.
It is a complement to, but not a replacement for your regular medical care or therapy.

What will reiki REALLY do for me?
Reiki helps to activate your parasympathetic nervous system - the "rest and digest" setting of your body. It helps to calm the "fight or flight" response that so many of us often feel stuck in. This can help lower your heart rate and blood pressure, reduce stress and anxiety, and balance your overall nervous system regulation (and your chakras!).
It will put you in a quieter state of mind - enabling you to find inspiration or answers to lingering questions. It can help you release pain - both mental and physical, and often the two are linked, you know?
For me personally, reiki provides deep relaxation, metal clarity, inspiration, and almost always some really cool images and/or messages from... wherever it is that those things live! I feel an unwinding of the stress coil within me. I can breathe easier for days! I think about the messages more often when they've come from "someone else" (even though really, the messages are always within each of us; the reiki master simply reminds you of them). In short, I feel amazing for days or weeks after each of my sessions, and I always have new ideas and information to use in my daily life.

What should I expect in my session?
We will chat at the beginning - what questions do you have? What are you hoping to gain from this session? Is there anything you'd like me to focus on? You will then sit or lie down comfortably and I will tune in to and channel the reiki. Gentle music will be playing and you may notice me writing notes periodically. When I feel that the energy has done all it needs to for the session, I will enclose you in a lovely reiki bubble, wake you up gently, and give you a few minutes to wake and sit up. We will then talk about any images or messages we received during the session, giving you time to feel ready to transition back into the outside world. Then, hopefully, you will feel lighter for days (or longer)!
4
How can I prepare for my session?
There is nothing in particular you need to do before a reiki session. You may find it helpful to have an intention in mind, but it's not necessary; perhaps think of any questions or issues you have for me.
I do recommend wearing comfortable clothes, and please no heavy perfumes or strong scents.

What's the difference between in-person and remote reiki?
When we meet in person, you will be on a reiki/massage table after our chat, and I offer a blanket or sheet if you'd like. I can use gentle touch or float my hands over you to channel the energy. There is soft music playing and we are surrounded by good-juju stuff (think crystals, salt lamps, artwork, etc.)
When we do a remote session, you find a quiet and comfortable place to sit or lay down wherever you are. I sit in my meditation & reiki area (in my home), where I am surrounded by my good-juju stuff, and I imagine you in front of me. I use the same energy-channeling technique, except I float my hands in the air instead of directly over your body. I will have soft music playing as well, but you may not be able to hear it over our call. You are welcome to play soft music of your choosing on your side if you'd like.
Either way, I feel the energy and where it needs to go. I still receive images and messages. Universal Energy is everywhere all the time, so any distance between us is immaterial!
6
How is reiki different from meditation or therapy?
Reiki is more similar to meditation than therapy, but I will admit that some of the messages I (and my reiki providers) have received end up being very therapeutic! You don't have to know how to meditate to receive reiki. You don't have to tell me your deepest secrets to receive reiki (although I will certainly hold them in confidence if you do!). If you can sit or lay still for about an hour, that's truly all you have to do!

What are these messsages and images you receive? Are you reading my mind?
I can't read your mind or your future. But sometimes I "hear" and "see" things in my mind as I'm working. Sometimes it is a quick flash, sometimes it is persistent. I will simply make a note of it as I work and keep going. Don't be surprised if you also see and/or hear things as I work! I have personally experienced many fascinating and meaningful things when someone else works on me.
If you choose to receive the messages or images from your session, I will share them. If you're happy to simply know that the energy work has been done, then you're free to go quietly.
